SaD, SanID thousand
Like maH tens and vatlh hundreds, SaD thousand is used in numbers. Unlike the first two, there are actually two number-forming elements for thousands:- SaD and SanID. Both can be used interchangeably.
Here are the thousands numbers, from 1,000 to 9,000.
wa'SaD | 1,000 |
cha'SaD | 2,000 |
wejSaD | 3,000 |
loSSaD | 4,000 |
vaghSaD | 5,000 |
javSaD | 6,000 |
SochSaD | 7,000 |
chorghSaD | 8,000 |
HutSaD | 9,000 |
These could easily be written as
wa'SanID | 1,000 |
cha'SanID | 2,000 |
wejSanID | 3,000 |
loSSanID | 4,000 |
vaghSanID | 5,000 |
javSanID | 6,000 |
SochSanID | 7,000 |
chorghSanID | 8,000 |
HutSanID | 9,000 |
Forming Thousands
Here are some of the numbers you can form between one thousand and just below ten thousand. The number-forming element for tens of thousands will be the topic of the next lesson.
wa'SaD wa' | 1,001 |
wa'SaD cha'vatlh wejmaH loS | 1,234 |
wa'SanID Hutvatlh javmaH wej | 1,963 |
cha'SaD wa'vatlh wej | 2,103 |
wejSaD wejvatlh wejmaH wej | 3,333 |
loSSaD wejvatlh cha'maH wa' | 4,321 |
loSSaD Sochvatlh | 4,700 |
loSSaD HutmaH jav | 4,096 |
javSanID javvatlh javmaH jav | 6,666 |
SochSaD wejvatlh chorghmaH Hut | 7,389 |

HutSanID Hutvatlh HutmaH Hut | 9,999 |
Haven't I Seen This Before?
loSSaD 4,000 probably triggers recognition in some of you. You've said it often enough, most likely, without even thinking. loSSaD, of course, appears in one of the most famous Klingon proverbs ever uttered:-
qaStaHvIS wa' ram loSSaD Hugh SIjlaH qetbogh loD |
Four thousand throats may be cut |
Next: The number-forming element netlh ten thousand.
