Honorifics
The Klingons have a number of words relating to honour. There are nouns, verbs and adverbials relating to acquiring and losing honour, justly and falsely acquiring honour, and behaving honourably and dishonourably. Among all of this vocabulary, there is also a single tlhIngan Hol verb suffix; the only suffix of Type 8. It is rarely used.
-neS honorific
-neS is used in addressing a superior, in the hierarchical structure. This suffix indicates extreme politeness or deference towards that superior. This suffix is never required.
A few typical uses
qaleghneS | It is an honour to see you |
SaleghneS | It is an honour to see you/ plural |
qaqIHneS | It is an honour to meet you for the first time |
SoHvaD jISuvneS | It am honoured to fight for you |
Dochvam vIta'neS | It is an honour for me to do this |
Dochvam vIta' 'e' Dachaw'neS'a' | Will you do me the honour of letting me do this |
Otherwise, you're not likely either to need to say it - or, for that matter, hear it spoken to you.
