New Verb Suffixes - Use With Normal And Adjective Verbs

<< First Page

-be' is not the only rover, of course. There are others, and some of these are of particular use with the verbs which are used as adjectives.

-Ha' undo, negate, mis-, reverse, invert

This negative suffix is more powerful than -be'. -Ha' undoes the meaning of the verb, reverses or inverts it, and can be used to mean that a task was botched or screwed up.

-Ha' is classified as a rover, but it doesn't actually do much roving. In fact, it appears in only one place - right after the bare root verb, every single time. Specifically, -Ha' comes before the regular Type 1 through 9 suffixes, and before the other rovers.

Also, -Ha' and -be' cannot be used on the same instance of a verb. It is either -be' or -Ha'. Never both. Also, unlike -be', -Ha' can be used in imperative verbs.

De' Qaybe'pu' vu'wI'The manager did not transfer the data
De' QayHa'pu' vu'wI'The manager botched the data transfer

This can be applied to adjectives, inverting their meaning:-

ngaD ravThe floor is stable/

ngaDHa' ravThe floor is unstable
Say' pa'The room is clean
Say'Ha' pa'The room is filthy
Huv 'ochThe pipe is clear/
('och pipe, conduit)
HuvHa' 'ochThe pipe is blocked

-qu' emphatic

This suffix adds emphasis to a verb, or adds affirmation. It comes after the verb, or suffix, that it affirms. With an adjective, -qu' translates to very.

Note that it is possible to use -Ha' and -qu' together on the same instance of a verb.
