Klingon Sentences 103 - Giving Commands - The Imperative Prefix

<< First Page

The previous lesson introduced the concept of the verb prefix, identifying the subject and object of a sentence by what is placed before the verb.

The following set of special prefixes allow a Klingon verb to be turned into an imperative command - an order.

Subject (none) me him/her/it us them
Object
you yI- HI- yI- gho- tI-
you (pl.) pe- HI- yI- gho- tI-

Klingon imperatives are always delivered to a second-person subject - you (singular) or you (plural).

Examples:-

1. Commands where there is no object ("X!")

yIqIm Pay attention!

peqIm Pay attention (addressing a group)

yIba' Sit!

peba' Sit! (addressing a group)

yI'el Enter!

pe'el Enter! (addressing a group)

2. Commands where the object is first person ("X me!")

HIHar Believe me!

HIwIv Choose me!

HIja' Tell me!

HIjang Answer me!

3. Commands where the object is singular third person
("X him/her/it!")

Dargh yIqem Bring tea!

Soj yIsop Eat the food!

4. Commands where the object is plural first person ("X us!")

ghowIv Choose us!

ghobuS Focus on us!

ghoDoH Back away from us!

ghoHar Believe us!

5. Commands where the object is plural third person ("X them!")

tIHar Believe them!

tIHIv Attack them!

tIHoH Kill them!

These, and the prefixes you have learned previously, are all the verb prefixes you will ever need to learn. There are some special rules to learn which alter the way one uses prefixes sometimes - and they are covered in later lessons - but what you have now learned applies to any sentence you state in tlhIngan Hol.
